About the Podcast

(a not-so-short history)

Written By Shaina

Welcome to the first and only podcast dedicated to the ten-man a cappella group, Straight No Chaser. This is the place for exclusive news, interviews, and inside scoop on the group!

I first came up with the idea of starting a podcast near the end of 2009. I liked the idea of having a kind of "audio news source" for SNC fans and, since I've enjoyed listening to podcasts in the past, I thought that it could not only bring the fans the latest news, but it could also entertain them.

I first pitched my idea to Dave, S, and Kathy, who were very supportive and encouraging in my idea but helped me realize that my goal of getting it published a week after I came up with the idea was not only impractical but a little crazy. We let it stew a little bit, gathering ideas for segments and getting in touch with some representatives from Atlantic, who let us know what we could and could not do.

After S told us that she was uncomfortable with recording her voice on the podcast (because she doesn't like the way it sounds), we decided that we needed a fourth co-host for our podcast, and so we asked Tina if she was interested. I am very glad that she accepted, since she has brought more creative ideas to the table and has access to new resources.

After five painstaking months of planning, preparation, and unforseeable hiccups (including an interview with Ryan that hadn't ended up being recorded -- thank you for being so patient with me, Ryan!), our first episode finally debuted on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 4pm PST/7pm EST.

The we're all extremely excited to bring you this podcast, and we hope that you enjoy it! We're still trying to get the hang of this whole podcasting thing, so please bear with us as we work out any kinks.

Update: December 28, 2010
On November 30, 2010, I first contacted three of my fellow Chasers about doing a fan podcast for Straight No Chaser.  One year and twenty-eight days later, we have put out ten episodes, hosted two contests, interviewed eight people, and conducted three SuperFan Chats.  We have a theme song, written by SNC member Walter Chase, and three hundred fans on Facebook.  I've gotten better at editing, and we've worked out major kinks.  We've gone through ups and downs, but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would ever be as successful as it has become.  Thank you to all you loyal listeners and Chasers out there who have made the podcast as successful as it has become!
